Basically, what Hitchens was proposing is genocide. Or, at least, wholesale execution of the population of the Moslem world until they are sufficiently cowed and frightened and depleted that they are unable to resist us in any way, ever again.

Christopher Hitchens and Genocide.

Neocons and other pro-war “conservatives” have been implying genocide against Muslims with Rich Lowry’s chilling discussion of “nuking Mecca” perhaps getting the closest to being explicit. But it looks like Christopher Hitchens is the first to “come out of the closet” and explicitly advocate genocide.

It is a darkly amusing irony that the “new atheists” like Hitchens have been advocating being secular like them in part because the believe we would get a less violent world. The reality, though, might very well be more like what we saw when atheists really did hold power. Hitchens comment suggests a new reign of atheism might be as bad or worse than previous ones.

Note: “Genocide” is not the right term because Muslims are not an ethnic group but a religious group. Unfortunately, Rummel’s useful term “democide” has not entered into the public vocabulary because it would be more accurate.
